Laying Hens

Our current laying hens came to us from the feed store in the Spring of 2013, technically before I even owned the house.  We started off purchasing six chicks at Tractor Supply, two each of Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks and d’Uccles.  A couple months later we picked up six more at Rural King, two Guineas, two Easter Eggers, an Australorp and a Brahma.  Three of our original six ended up being roosters, two of which we gave to a guy we had met at Tractor Supply, and kept the Fleur Mille d’Uccle roo until he was tragically lost to a raccoon.  After about six months we started getting eggs.  Now we collect 6-8 eggs a day from our girls.
